It did even exceed my expectations for a bit, considering the affordable price. The design quality is top notch and the color is nice. Seems that the material is good. It has a very beautiful color but I don’t really like the texture.

solar oven Buyer’s Guide
Solar cooking is done with the help of UV rays from the sun. When the UV light rays fall on the solar cooker, they are converted to longer infrared light rays which cannot escape the space. The infrared radiation has the energy to make protein, water or fat molecules vibrate vigorously and thus heat them up.
Contrary to what people generally believe, solar cooking does not require hot temperatures or blinding sun to cook the meal, rather you just need the sun’s rays to cook food in your cookware. Check out some hard anodized cookware that you can use for solar cooking.
Facing the Sun
To achieve maximum efficiency, it is important to track the sun and adjust the cooker so that it faces directly toward the sun. This will help in concentrating and absorbing the sun’s rays in a better manner.
However, this does not mean that you need to stand behind the cooker to adjust it frequently, rather, you should adjust the angle of the cooker every two or three hours.
Panel Solar Cooker
The panel solar cooker focuses sunlight with the help of reflective panels. It works best during summer months when heat loss and the wind do not pose any challenge. The aluminum cardboard panel cooker easily heats up food to 250 degrees Fahrenheit. However, the aluminum foil works perfectly for about a month after which it needs to be replaced.
GoSun Solar Cooker
CES Innovation Award 201Winner, the Go Sun Solar Cooker does not fit into the traditional categories of solar ovens. Slide in the food into a glass tube and put it into a hole enclosed by parabolic reflectors. The internal temperature of the cooker can reach up to 550 degrees Fahrenheit which is similar to the temperature of the gas-powered grill.
DIY Solar Over
You can also find many videos over the internet on how to DIY your own solar cooker for cheap. So, if you are thinking about DIY-ing your cooker rather than purchasing it, make sure to watch the video below as it will help you know more on some of the qualities of the best solar cooker.
This part is performed by the reflecting panels which can focus the UV rays of the sunlight to a single point. The reflecting panels are generally made up of a material which is reflective and shiny such as aluminum, silver or chromium.Without the reflective panels, the sun rays will take up a long time to heat the surface or object. Thus, it is an essential part which is responsible to speed up the cooking process.
This can be best achieved with the help of a dark colored inner surface. Therefore, you will find that solar cookers generally have black interiors. Dark colored interior or black interiors are generally used because it absorbs the heat easily as compared to the lighter counterparts.
Moreover, some colors can even reflect the energy of the sun. Therefore, when picking up the best solar cookware, make sure you pick dark and thin variety as it will absorb and transfer the heat evenly and quickly.

VILLA LIBERACIÓN, Dominican Republic—“The rice is done!” someone proclaimed from the chapel courtyard.
A second later, another person yelled the same phrase in Spanish.
These Solar Farms Help—Not Harm—Birds and Bees
The solar movement was initiated by a U.S.-based nonprofit, Solar Oven Partners, which presented workshops on how to use the ovens like the one in Villa Liberación. Rick Jost, the organization’s director, hopes solar oven use will allow people in the Dominican Republic to save money to better their quality of life and reduce the risks of cooking with wood.
Families who use solar ovens increasingly save money by depending less on gas stoves.
After the workshop, Esthel bought one of those solar ovens. With the money she hopes to save, she wants to buy better-quality food for her family. But she does have a few concerns—such as working around cloudy or rainy weather and having to adjust her daily life to cooking with the new oven. “We will have to wake up earlier,” she said. It takes two or three hours to bake a meal in a solar oven instead of about an hour on a gas stove.
Idalia Batista bought her solar oven about six months ago and starts preparing lunch by a.m. She’s adjusted her schedule to cook for her family of eight, preparing rice, beans, corn, and occasionally meat in the oven.
While the food cooks, she does other chores around the house. She said she’s used the solar oven almost every day since she bought it. “There never was a day when it was too cloudy,” she said in Spanish through a translator.
Batista sees solar ovens as an opportunity for her community. “Everybody loves the oven because…the sun is something they always have, and it’s there for them,” she said. There are about 3solar ovens in her community of Jaquiemeyes.
Deported From Their Own Country
Solar Oven Partners worked in Haiti for 1years before starting in the Dominican Republic in 201The organization sold and distributed almost 10,000 ovens there. “We don’t have any illusions of saving the world or even a society or country, but our philosophy is that if you help one family improve their situation by cooking, then you’ve done something important,” Jost said.
He wants to empower people to change their lives in small ways, affecting their societies in turn, by using solar ovens. The organization works through the IED church system to reach places in the Dominican Republic where the ovens are needed most.
The church gives the organization guidance and has the “ultimate control” over which communities get ovens, Jost said. “As so often happens, even with international outreach programs, if you just go in and start doing for people what you think they need without any consideration of their culture, you’re not doing them any favor—you’re actually harming the situation,” Jost said.
Other organizations have been bringing solar ovens to Central America, other parts of the Caribbean, and Africa.
A team led by Molly Enz, a professor at South Dakota State University, conducted a three-year survey response to solar ovens in Haiti completed in 2014.
